Compare five local hall options for a children's birthday, with official venue sources and practical checks for music, room size, access, age restrictions and party timings.

A hall can be a flexible starting point for a children's birthday disco, but the right choice depends on the actual room and its rules. These five venues publish hire information for the Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead area. They are a research shortlist, not a claim that Motion Entertainment is an approved supplier or has performed at every venue. Check availability, prices and permission for your particular party directly before booking.

Venue details checked against official websites on 1 October 2026. Capacities are venue-published figures, not our recommendations for a disco. Your usable capacity will depend on equipment, food tables, activities and the adults attending.

Five local options to investigate

VenuePublished facilitiesAsk before booking
Northchurch Social Centre, HP4Large and small halls; kitchen facilities and parking. Its website explicitly lists children's parties.Which room suits an active disco? The published policy excludes teenage parties, so confirm the birthday age.
Potten End Village Hall, HP4Main hall and adjoining room, kitchen, accessible facilities and parking. The venue advertises party hire. Can your chosen room accommodate the DJ, guests and food area? Confirm music rules, supervision and access times.
Chaulden Community Centre, HP1Main and small halls with kitchen facilities; sound and lighting equipment is available to hire.Which room and equipment are included? Tell the venue if you are booking an external DJ rather than operating its system yourself.
St Mary's Hall, Hemel Old Town, HP1A 74-square-metre main hall, published maximum occupancy of 70, kitchen and blackout curtains. Is your particular birthday disco permitted, and how much open floor remains once tables and the DJ are set up?
Apsley Community Centre, HP3Main hall advertised for parties, with a published capacity of 120 and a fitted kitchen.Confirm the main hall rather than the upstairs meeting room, and agree unloading, room access and amplified-music arrangements.

Shortlist by party style, not headline capacity

For younger children, prioritise a clear activity space with adults able to supervise comfortably. If the party includes a sit-down meal, ask whether food can be served in a separate area or whether tables must stay in the main room. A smaller party does not automatically need the smallest room: a disco and its equipment can use space differently from a meeting or seated lunch.

For a neon party, ask about blinds or curtains and which lights must remain on. For karaoke, consider where singers will stand and where the rest of the group will gather. For children over 10, a music-led disco is usually a better starting point than organised games, but a venue's own age restrictions still apply. Never assume a hall advertising children's birthdays also accepts teenage parties.

Questions to send the hall before paying

QuestionWhat you need to establish
Is our child's age and party format accepted?Explicit approval for a birthday disco, karaoke or neon event—not just a general function.
What is the total hire window?Supplier setup, guest arrival, entertainment, pack-down and your cleaning time.
Are there sound or lighting restrictions?Sound limiters, volume conditions, smoke-effect rules and lighting controls.
Which room and facilities are included?Kitchen, tables, chairs, heating, toilets and whether any spaces are shared.
How do suppliers unload? The actual entrance, parking, stairs and the route to the room.
What must we do before handing back?Cleaning, waste, furniture arrangements and the final exit time.

Ask for the current hire terms and price in writing. We have not listed hourly rates because the booked rooms, day, concessions, deposits and extras can change the total. A cheap hourly rate can be less useful than a hire window that genuinely covers setup and clearing up.

Coordinate the hall and the DJ before sending invitations

Send Motion the venue postcode, room name, proposed date, access times, children's ages and guest numbers. We can review the party format and equipment requirements alongside the venue information. You book and manage the hall directly; our role is the entertainment, not venue management or childcare. Confirm both bookings before issuing invitations with fixed times.

Choose a hosted disco with music, lighting and activities suited to your group. Share the venue details for a clear entertainment quote.
